READING RESPONSE

Further up and further in! I began to see a forever pursuance of the truth, a deeper and authentic freedom of chasing it. The ability to break through realities boundaries and obstacles in a chase for what's right. The feeling of not being afraid, bigger and bigger worlds not strange yet knowing of them. "The further up and the further in you go, the bigger everything gets. The inside is larger than the outside". A thought of self love and individuation on a basis of shutting out the negativity in life with practice of forgiveness, humility, and passion. The ability to continue on a righteous path of good deeds and morals to grow oneself in an uplifting positive progression to a place of blissful happiness forever flowing with warmth and acceptance. The ability of pursuing dreams and aspirations with stoic thoughts in the pursuit of what is true and right in the very essence of the divine. "Further up and further in, Take it in your stride".

READING RESPONSE

"They're killing our babies." he snarled. "Who?" in response. "They. The ones in command. The ones in command of the demand of the things in which we seek and squander. Them." As if perception was crisp and clear to me but not to him. "But why? why and how could someone not care, to pollute those minds and fill them with hot nothingness?" questioned in disbelief. "Because, you must see, they do care but for greed and things. To fill their pockets, to stamper our flame, its all part of their plan, yet so unseen. Until you question constructs, destroy prenotions, become the light you've concealed within, until then you cannot be free. Be Free! Stampede! Rage! Erupt! Be free without preconceived subliminal ideologies and beliefs, you're you and I'm me, to be here, to be free. Yet, we're here, and they're there, with heinous plans to bring a baptism of animosity into our thoughts. Slowly we, the ones who see, fall and succumb to the belief, the belief of fearful phobias overwhelming our light, forever dampened, forever dwindling. All while we watch them kill our babies."

3D: 3D to 2D

Juggling a Country

For my 3D to 2D project I chose to post a video of the juggling balls actually being juggled. The size of the juggling balls makes for more of a challenge than a regular sized set. The action of these are more important to me than imagery so by showing them being used and the motion they create is one similar to the concept of the juggling balls. Unity and control balanced with flow and motion.

Contemporary Drawing: Ephemeral Marks in the Landscape

Separation

Dimensions: roughly 11'
Materials: Dead Palm branches

I chose to place dead palm branches in a line where a man made bridge structure was implemented for water flow and easy crossing. Creating a separation between the land that would not be there if there was no cement tube beneath it. Separation with nature.

Pebble Skyscrapers

Dimensions: Approx. 1" x 5" (x7)
Materials: garden pebbles

Balancing small garden pebbles to create an almost zen-like presence in a very focused and minute scaled environment, while only to be lost from view when looking down onto the pile of pebbles or when standing further away. Separation from the minute and small based off scale.

Ceramics: Dinner Party

Love of Homeland

Dimensions: 17.5" x 12"
(Three pieces staked to fit; water, tree, sun)
Materials: Clay, glaze

I chose to represent the country of Dominica in ceramic work by showing the significance of the land and nature that is connected with the culture and country. Round repetitive patterns found in the water singings the unity of water and an its essential use of supplying nutrients for the land. The green tree like structure represents the lush diversity in trees and nature found on the island. The sun placed on top is the ultimate source of power for all. Also placing a siserou parrot in the tree, which is the bird of the country and is on the country flag, one of almost a dozen country flags that have the color purple in it.

Fig Pie

Dimesnison: 13.7" x 7.7"
Materials: Clay, glaze

My second piece I chose to mimic the traditional tool used in Dominica to mash plantains and other foods similar to a pestle and mortar. With six smaller identical tools placed revolving around the main tool to give a more dynamic composition. Using natural earth tone glaze I was able to mimic an almost wood like texture in the color.

Contemporary Drawing: Eraser Drawing

Q1

Stained Glass

Soft Fire

Above dimensions: 18" x 24"
Materials: Black soft pastel, Black vine charcoal, eraser

The above were done using the method of erasing once the black top layer was placed on the paper using charcoal or pastel. The negative was created using an eraser.

Mack boi

Materials: Dog fur

Given the task to "erase" something, anything, I chose to shave my dog. Essentially erasing the time and physicality of his fur to create something new only by erasing.

Contemporary Drawing: Multiple Panel

Tri Tri

Dimensions: Blue 20" x 17". Pink 21.5" x 16.6". Green 27" x 17"
Materials: Wood, Black acrylic, nails, yarn

My multiple panel project began with inspiration from a set of stones displayed on my work desk (image below). Already being a fan of Primary colors (RGB) and finding the colors were shared throughout the stones, except for the pink, I decided to use a higher contrast pastel tone of RGB. The shapes were also inspired by the stones as well as how they fit together. The decision to use nail was desire to show depth and space within and throughout the geometric lined shapes. All placed on 3" wooden dowel legs allows the underneath of the panel to be viewed, showing the more appealing topside while exposing the underlying sharp ends that is needed to create the other.
