Project: "let freedom ring" drawings

This week at SJYA the project/task was to get the guys to draw more images for the "Let freedom ring" sculpture that is going to be built in St Augustine. Starting the class off, the staff wasn't to enthused to be sitting in a room with everyone making art, except for Mrs. Lasik who actually took part in the collage and image building project Jake had introduced. The clay started with about 9 or so guys only to end with 4 or 5. My group dwindled down to 2 guys by the time we were done. My group drew images, one of Malcolm X pondering thoughts with some encoring words, while the other drew an image of MLK pondering thoughts with positive words encompassing him. They seem to be enthused and content with drawing and overall happy with there results. We had discussions about life after SJYA and what they planned on doing. One student, Paygen, said he wanted to be a rapper which i asked to here a rap and he started a beat on the table and began to rap. I was pretty impressed with his skill and pushed him in pursuance of his passion. The other student and i didn't really talk to much about conversation more or less just hanging out and speaking about interests and life in SJYA. Class was over and they were happy with there end result and said they would be fine with drawing more on Wednesday when i would arrive again. Unfortunately circumstances arose at work and i was unable to make it back to SJYA on Wednesday.
