Contemporary Drawing: Drawing Collection

Cancer is Cancer

Dimensions: 38" x 24"

Repetion in black boxes with exposed surgeon general warning is representational of the after lying thoughts and emotions someone has after smoking a cigarette, whether aware of them or not. While a singular clean box with the surgeon general warning covered is meant to represent the blind eye a smoker adopts when lighting up a cigarette or buying a fresh pack, knowing the risks yet staying blind to them.

The piece became interactive when individuals who smoke cigarettes began taking fresh smokes from the original pack, yet concreting the meaning of the piece. One individual placed a half smoked cigarette back into the new pack, with the tar resin stained tip exposed.
